Cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental procedure that improves the appearance of a person's gums, teeth, or bite. There are many procedures that fall under this category. The office of Glen W, Hisel DDS is proud to offer our patients a variety of options to help them restore and create a bright, long-lasting smile.
Composite fillings can help you achieve a more natural looking smile, while also adding protection against broken teeth in the future. The composite material we use provides a tooth-colored filling that has improved stability, strength, and color. We carefully match the material to your existing tooth structure. Bonding also enhances the aesthetics of your smile. It can be used to correct gaps or cracks in teeth, to cover up stains, discolored teeth, or as a filling after a cavity have been removed.
Veneers are custom-made porcelain or ceramic laminates that are applied directly to patient's teeth. This procedure is almost undetectable when applied to a tooth because veneers take on the natural discoloration of your teeth. If you are looking to correct misaligned or crooked teeth, porcelain veneers are a good option. Porcelain veneers are also an excellent choice if you are looking to close gaps between teeth and want an option that is resistant to discoloration from dental bleaching.
Bonding can fix dulled, stained, chipped, cracked or misaligned teeth. This procedure places a thin layer of composite over your damaged teeth. This is so discrete you won’t even know it’s not your natural teeth.
White (Composite) Fillings
Today's tooth-colored fillings feature improved stability, color, and strength. Our dental fillings will help you achieve a more natural looking smile, while also aiding in preventing broken teeth in the future. A tooth filling helps treat dental decay and restores structure to a tooth after it is decayed or broken. The composite material we use is carefully matched to your existing tooth structure, which creates a more natural looking tooth.
Gentle Whitening Options
The effects of smoking, coffee, tea, and other causes of teeth discoloration will slowly disappear after you begin a teeth whitening treatment. If you would like to see if you're a candidate for teeth whitening, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our dental health care team today. We can help you bring out a more radiant, white smile.
Restorative / Preventative Dentistry
Preventative dentistry plays an important role in preventing problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Our in-office dental care complements your at-home dental routine. Regular check-ups include hygiene appointments, periodontal (gum) disease screenings, annual x-rays, TMJ screenings, oral cancer screenings, and more. Together, we will work with you and your family members to ensure you all develop good oral health habits. We will also help you recognize the warning signs if something serious develops.
Bioesthetic Reconstructive Dentistry
Bioesthetic Reconstructive Dentistry focuses on rejuvenating the chewing system. It is based on the ideal natural, biological model. Bioesthetic dentists regard the teeth, jaw joints, bones, nerves, lips, muscles, tongue, mouth and the face as an entire system rather than individual, separate parts.
Some of the principles of bioesthetic dentistry include:
- Stabilizing the lower jaw in the jaw socket
- Properly aligning the upper and lower front teeth
- Giving teeth proper form so they fit together for chewing.
If you are experiencing dental or physical problems, like nighttime grinding, headaches, jaw, neck, or shoulder pain, please give our office a call. We will be happy to help you understand how Bioesthetic Reconstructive Dentistry can improve your quality of life.
Bridgework can be utilized if you have lost teeth due to gum disease, decay, or injury. Leaving an injured or missing tooth unfixed can create larger problems for you and your dental health. If your teeth begin to shift, it can look unsightly, and also result in discomfort and pain. Dental bridges help close the gaps in your mouth, and look and act just like your natural teeth. A bridge is permanently cemented in your mouth and helps maintain the positioning of the rest of your teeth.
From beginning to end, our dentists and dental staff are committed to providing all children from infancy to adolescence with the best dental care. Our highly qualified staff and doctors offer a full range of dental services for kids, and will help your child develop oral health habits that ensure healthy smiles for life.
Crown lengthening is a common dental surgical procedure. During the procedure gum tissues, bone or both are removed to expose more of a tooth. This is done when a tooth needs to be fixed and more enough of a tooth sticks out above the gum line to support a crown or filling.
If you are in need of a dental crown, we provide the best options. A crown may be necessary if your tooth is severely damaged or in an advanced stage of tooth decay. If the tooth cannot be fixed with bonding material, this is especially true. Like fillings, crowns help restore aesthetics, function and strength to your teeth by covering the remaining tooth structure. A dental crown can be made from several materials. The material used depends on the area of your mouth being restored.
Dentures & Partials
Dentures may be a good option if you are missing teeth and want to restore a natural looking, healthy smile. Complete dentures are used on patients who are missing all of their teeth, whereas partial dentures are available to patients who still retain some of their natural teeth. Dentures restore function, beauty, and health to a patient's smile. Better yet, they are custom made to fit comfortably and snugly within your mouth, and help restore the ability to eat and speak. Properly placed dentures also help prevent facial sagging.
When permanent teeth are significantly damaged, extracting the compromised teeth can, in some cases, help you return to optimal oral health. After discussing your various treatment options with you and deciding on an extraction, your dentist will perform your treatment in the comfort of our office. Your treatment will be:
- Completed in one visit
Following the extraction, it is important to replace the tooth to prevent problems with the surrounding teeth. You can discuss your tooth replacement options with your dentist during your initial consultation.
Even if you feel healthy and do no exhibit any symptoms, it is important to attend regular visits to the dentist to monitor and identify any signs of gum disease. Gum (periodontal) disease can progress without a patient knowing. If it is left untreated, it can destroy the supporting bones in a patient's mouth. For this reason, early prevention and treatment are essential. We maintain the highest level of care to help you maintain proper oral health and to help prevent gum disease from even developing.
If a tooth has been affected by severe trauma, or if an infection has reached the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth) of the tooth, a root canal may be needed. In order to save the tooth, the pulp, bacteria, nerves, and any decay is removed and the resulting space is then filled with special medicated dental materials to restore the tooth to its full function. A root canal saves the tooth from dying and can prevent more costly problems down the line.
Regular cleanings are recommended bi-annually for most healthy patients. This includes removing plaque, stains, tartar or calculus, and then polishing and flossing the teeth.
Scaling & Root Planing
For patients with moderate gum disease, dental scaling is the most common non-surgical treatment method. Scaling can help treat the disease and keep it from getting worse. This procedure involves cleaning areas of the tooth below the gum line, to help remove bacteria and prevent gum disease from getting worse. Scaling can be done with either hand-held or ultrasonic instruments. Both types of cleaning methods remove tartar build-up and help improve your oral health.
An effective, preventative treatment option to prevent tooth decay is dental sealants. Sealants are a plastic film that is applied to the chewing surface of teeth. It forms a protective barrier between tooth enamel and keeps bacteria and food particles from penetrating the tooth's surface.
Hybrid Panoramic Digital X-Ray
We offer comfortable digital x-rays taken by a high resolution hybrid panoramic machine. No more awkward, bulky sensor in your mouth. This machine is perfect for patients with large bony tori, sensitive gag reflexes and small children too. Taking radiographs of your teeth with this digital panoramic machine is as simple and comfortable as biting on a Popsicle stick. Digital x-Ray machines produce striking, high resolution image quality with greatly reduced radiation exposure. This allows for an efficient and thorough diagnosis to be done by Dr. Hisel. Yet another way we're working together to keep your teeth healthy for life.
We offer E-Max crowns and bridges made entirely of ceramic porcelain. Full porcelain crowns are durable and esthetically pleasing. E-Max crowns and bridges are not fused to metal that can eventually reveal a dark black, unsightly margin at the gumline.
In addition, we also offer a selection of comprehensive dental health programs including:
- Oral Hygiene Instruction
- Tobacco Counseling
- Nutritional Counseling
- Oral/Systemic Health Counseling
- Detailed and Extensive Treatment Planning
